Melissa Fahey – Mine Forever Celebrant Services
Tell us about yourself… The self coined ‘Selfie Celebrant’ I am a lover of Champagne, reality TV and anything to do with weddings! I am easy going and I love a good laugh. I have been married for 22 years and my husband and I have lived in the Southern Highlands/ Macarthur area for over 20 years.
Tell us about your business… I have been a celebrant for nearly 8 years and I love every minute of it! I love meeting new couples and connecting with them to the point where it feels as if we have known each other for years. I truly believe that this is the secret ingredient to a great ceremony. I am often asked if I am a friend of the family or how long I have known the couple. This is the best compliment that I can receive.
Describe a typical day in the life of Melissa Fahey? Being in the wedding industry there is no ‘typical day’. I don’t work a traditional 9-5 job and being a celebrant is my only job, so through the week I work on upcoming weddings, answer emails and new enquiries and set up appointments to meet with couples. Networking is also a big part of my week, this could be coffee, lunch or drinks with industry friends or meeting other small business owners at organised events.
I meet with couples at night or via skype or phone calls. My week really ramps up by Thursday where I may have rehearsals for that weekend’s weddings and I prepare the paperwork for the weddings on the weekend. And then there is all of the ‘maintenance’ that has to be done, you know what I mean ladies- hair, nails, lashes. This is classified as work, right?
What inspires you? Each wedding inspires me. After every wedding I am on such a high, it really is a great privilege to be invited into a new family each week. Every couple is different and every week I walk away filled with love and it spurs me on for the week ahead and to create more happy moments for everyone.
Why is your work different to other celebrants? I don’t really know how I am different to other celebrants, as we don’t often get to see each other at work. All I know is that what you see is what you get with me, I don’t have a ‘celebrant voice’, I am real and I like to deliver a ceremony with a laid back style, filled with love and a few laughs. I like the guests to clap and cheer and enjoy the moment with the couple. My couples choose me because this is the style of ceremony that they want, relaxed and fun whilst still being respectful of the moment, we can celebrate their love the way they want.
Favourite soundtrack to listen to while you’re planting? I usually have the Foxtel music channels on while working so its either on Smooth for some old school easy listening love songs or RNB Fridays.
What is your favourite part of any wedding? Seeing the look on the grooms’ face as the bride is walking towards him. Or the face of the proud mum and dad as they walk her down the aisle. Recently I have had grandfathers give advice to the couple during the ceremony, that was also pretty special.
